Fire Island Wind Farm Assessment
Fall 2008
The Client: Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation and a leading developer of renewable energy in Alaska
The Project: Alaska’s first large-scale commercial wind farm to be built on Fire Island, just three miles west of Anchorage. The 36-turbine, 54-megawatt project will generate approximately 150,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually, enough to power more than 18,000 Southcentral Alaska households.
CIRI estimates the wind farm will be tested, on-line and producing power by December 31, 2011.
Our Work: We provided CIRI with orthophotography and planimetric and topographic mapping services. Our topographic mapping and orthophotography met National Map Accuracy Standards for 1”=100’ mapping and a 2-foot contour interval, with half-foot color orthophotographs.
Our work has been or will be used for…
- Land-use master planning
- Facility location
- Functional design
- 3-D visualization
- GIS-assisted asset management & environmental impact studies
Partners: We teamed with The Boutet Company, the prime contractor.
